           Software Features

 

 

Apache Web Server

The Apache Web Server has been integrated into SCO OpenServer, replacing the Netscape FastTrack server. SCO OpenServer includes the /etc/apache startup script, with options to enable/disable and start/stop the Apache web service. This version of Apache includes support for XML, PHP, ASP, and other popular Apache technologies, such as mod_perl.

 

 

Java Runtime Environment

The Java Runtime Environment is now installed by default with SCO OpenServer. Previously, the JRE was only available from the UDK CD-ROM.

 

 

OpenSSH

OpenSSH, a suite of network connectivity tools that encrypts all traffic to eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks, is now included with SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7. The OpenSSH suite includes the ssh(1) program (replacing rlogin and telnet), scp(1) (replacing rcp), and sftp(1) (replacing ftp).

 

 

Squid Web Proxy Cache

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 now includes Squid, the high performance proxy cache for Web clients.

 

 

Web Browsers

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 provides two new web browsers:

·         the graphical Mozilla web browser

·         the character-based Lynx web browser

NeTraverse Merge 5.3

NeTraverse Merge 5.3 is the successor to SCO Merge 5.1. New and enhanced features in this new release include:

·         Support for Microsoft Windows ME, Windows 98 Second Edition, as well as DOS applications.

·         Support for Windows VNET Networking on SCO OpenServer systems, allowing Merge users, UNIX users, and native Windows users to share files and print facilities via Windows Network Neighborhood.

·         Audio playback support (using third-party device drivers).

·         Zoomless installation of Windows. A UNIX console is not required during the Windows installation.

·         Support for web browsers such was Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and 6, as well as Netscape Communicator versions 4.x, 6.x, and 7. A wide variety of personal and office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office 2000 and Outlook are also supported.

·         Automatic creation of D: drive for user data.

·         Available Windows memory increased to 128MB.

Samba File and Print Server Release 2.2.6

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 introduces support for Samba File and Print Server Release 2.2.6, a suite of networking products based on Open Source technologies that implement the SMB/CIFS (Server Message Block/Common Internet File System) protocols on UNIX and Linux platforms. This release of Samba provides:

·         file and print services to Windows, UNIX, and Linux clients

·         authentication, authorization, and name resolution services

·         service announcement (browsing)

·         updated SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool) wizard for remote administration

·         numerous enhancements and bug fixes over previous releases

Device and peripheral support

·         New processor and chip set support, up to speeds of 4Ghz, including:
